Design Your Spending On Purpose
The Money Blueprint in Violet Codex is your spending plan — not what you spent last month, but what you choose to spend going forward. It is the foundation that powers your Allocation Calculator and Forecasting features.
What you'll learn
- Set up your monthly income and pay frequency in the Blueprint settings
- Add budget sections for rent, groceries, transportation, and more
- Handle shared expenses with the share percentage feature
- View your budget through different time lenses — yearly, monthly, weekly
- Analyze the long-term cost of any expense vs. investing that money
- Export your budget for AI-powered optimization suggestions
Step 1: Configure Blueprint Settings
Set your monthly take-home pay and pay frequency (weekly, bi-weekly, twice monthly, or monthly). The Blueprint uses these to calculate per-paycheck allocations automatically.
Step 2: Add Your Budget Sections
Create sections for each expense category: housing, groceries, transportation, utilities, subscriptions, and savings. For each item, enter the amount and frequency. The Blueprint shows totals across different time lenses — yearly, monthly, and per-paycheck.
Step 3: Shared Expenses
For expenses you split with a partner or roommate, use the share percentage feature. Enter the full amount and set your share — the Blueprint calculates your portion automatically across all views.
Step 4: Long-Term Cost Analysis
Every expense has a "What if you invested this?" calculation showing the opportunity cost over 10, 20, and 30 years. This puts the tradeoff mindset into real numbers for every recurring expense.
